"Do you have the quickest Street VW in the South ???"

 

Well, the 1st Annual Unlimited Street South race is officially in the books!  Although the car count was a little down, everyone had positive things to say about the event, and there is already excitement about next year's event(s)!

Here's the run down on the event:

The Cruise: 5 participants entered the 23 mile cruise, with only 4 surviving and returning to the track.  Shane Smith in his beautiful orange '67

had the misfortune of his fuel pump failing!  Fortunately it was just after leaving the track, so he was able to limp it back.  Carl Nolen tells me that he too barely made it as his fuel tank was completely DRY when he got back to the pits!

 Qualifying: Carl Nolen led qualifying with a stellar 10.48 @ 127 in his nitrous-assisted ride.  Tom Funnel was #2 in his normally aspirated ride, Emmanuel Sarger was #3 in his normally aspirated ride, and Mike Cummings rounded out qualifying with his turbo split.

Eliminations: Round 1: Tom's 12.72 beats Emmanuell's 14.50, while Carl beats Mike with a MASSIVE holeshot, 12.13 to Mike's quicker, but later 11.71.

In the finals, Carl's car slows to a 12.57, but it was enough to hold off Tom's 12.64!

BTW, Tom's car ran between a 12.58 and a 12.74 all day long, so, congrats Tom on having the most consistent car there!

The Rules

These are the only rules...no more, no less.

  • Any four cylinder, air cooled, rear-engine VW powered vehicle allowed

  • Minimum vehicle weight (with driver) 1700 lbs

  • Must have two front seats

  • Must have functioning headlights & tail lights

  • No Wheelie Bars allowed

  • Proof of Registration and Insurance Required

  • Vehicle must have all required safety equipment for ET/MPH as per NHRA Rules

  • Muffler required on ALL vehicles

  • Vehicles must complete an approximate 20 mile Street Cruise prior to the event 

  • Recommend (but not required) decals and stickers on quarter and rear windows, not on body of vehicle

  • No tow vehicles allowed (Vehicle must drive to the Starting Line and return to the Pits under its own power.)

Unlimited Street South 2009 Contenders

 

*Unless noted, all payouts will be in CASH.  Race Payouts based on MINIMUM 6 Car Field.
If there are fewer than 6 cars, the cash payout will be reduced, starting with the winner and runner-up payouts.
If there are MORE than 6 cars, Race Payouts will be increased accordingly, starting from the bottom up.

**Competitors who use nitrous on their turbocharged cars will only be eligible
for the TurbosDirect Turbocharged Awards.
